2018 Annual Gathering at Chapman University
Welcome to Annual Gathering 2018 Registration!
Greetings to you and your faithful churches and ministries of the Southern California Nevada Conference of the United Church of Christ!
Soon we will gather together to worship, work, and fellowship at our Annual Gathering. This year our theme comes from Isaiah 43:19: Behold I AM doing a new thing! Together we will explore where God is infusing us and our churches with life and vitality and listen for the new things to which our still speaking God is calling us.
We are very excited this year to offer two keynote speakers, who will enrich our time together. Chris Davies is the Coordinator for Congregational Assessment, Support and Advancement from the National Staff of the UCC. And, Val Hastings is a Master Certified Coach, founder of Coaching for Clergy, International Coach Federation.
Come join us in our wonderful work together as a conference!
All "Weekend" registrations include meals. You can add-on available meals to a Friday Only or Saturday Only registration.
We are excited to welcome two keynote speakers this year:
Chris Davies, Coordinator for Congregational Assessment, Support and Advancement from the National Staff of the UCC, who will bring to us her excitement about new ways of being church in our changing world. She will open our hearts to hearing what new things God may be calling us to.
Val Hastings, Master Certified Coach, founder of Coaching for Clergy, International Coach Federation, whose passion is supporting people, especially pastors, to effectively grow and develop their gifts. Through powerful questions and deep listening, he will encourage us in our ministries together.

From finances to governance, running a church is a challenge! These workshops will equip us with some structure and best practices for these challenges.
Small Church Finances: During this workshop we will discuss how a small congregation can maintain financial controls with limited staff and volunteers.
Good Governance: During this workshop we will discuss how a church council can effectively lead a congregation, uphold legal and fiduciary duties, and not overwhelm the volunteers who do this important work.
The UCC Today and Tomorrow:
As our vibrant denomination shifts, grows, adapts, and changes, it can be a challenge to keep up with it all. Join these session to engage in what’s going on at all levels of our church from National to Local.
Hearing on UCC Bylaws with Libby Tigner.
Before we vote in a plenary whether to ratify changes approved to the UCC Bylaws at the last General Synod, get some more information about what the changes mean and what our vote entails. Beyond the nitty gritty of this particular vote, Libby will provide insight into what’s happening at National and lead a discussion about how we can engage.
What’s New in the UCC?! with Chris Davies.
Emerging ministries are taking place across the life and breadth of our denomination! This workshop will lift up some of the new ministries and faith innovations in the United Church of Christ, and engage themes throughout them all. Spiritual innovation invites a call for our local churches to think together about how to be creative in who we are as church, and how we do church in the context of our communities. Those who register for this workshop will also get a detailed printout of the demographics of your church’s neighborhood.
How to lead a group discussion:
Experience a group coaching session with highly experienced coaches! These practical, hands-on sessions will teach you new ways to facilitate group discussions. This approach taps into the wisdom of the gathered group. It brings focus and clarity, creates space for collaboration, and moves us forward toward action.
